Privacy Policy
Short version: your images never leave your computer. This page explains that in full, and covers the things that do involve third parties.
On this page
1. Your images
CropViewer never receives your images. It is not an upload service. When you open a folder or drop files onto the page, your browser gives the application a reference to those files on your own disk. Reading, decoding, cropping, transforming and encoding all happen locally, inside the browser tab, using your computer's processor.
There is no image server, no temporary storage bucket and no queue. We cannot see your files, we do not receive their names, and we could not retrieve them if we wanted to. After the page finishes loading, the application makes no network requests whatsoever — you can confirm this in your browser's developer tools under the Network tab.
2. What is stored in your browser
The app stores a small amount of data on your own device to work properly. None of it is transmitted anywhere.
| What | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thumbnail images | IndexedDB | So a folder you have already opened reloads instantly instead of decoding every file again. |
| A reference to the last folder you opened | IndexedDB | So the app can offer to reopen it. Your browser controls this permission and can revoke it at any time. |
| Interface preferences (for example minimal mode) | localStorage | So the app opens the way you left it. |
You can erase all of it at any time by clearing site data for cropviewer.net in your browser settings. Doing so does not affect your image files.
3. Hosting and server logs
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like essentially all web hosting, Cloudflare records standard technical request data — IP address, timestamp, requested URL, referring page and browser user-agent string — for security, abuse prevention and aggregate traffic statistics. We use this only in aggregate and do not attempt to identify individuals from it. Cloudflare's handling of that data is governed by its own privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
We do not run any analytics product of our own, and we do not set any cookies of our own.
4. Advertising and cookies
This site may display advertising supplied by Google AdSense in order to cover its running costs. Advertising works differently from the rest of the site, so it is worth being explicit about it:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this and other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- Third-party ad networks other than Google may also be used; where that is the case, their cookies are governed by their own policies.
Advertising never has access to your images. Ads appear on the site's content pages, not inside the application, and ad code has no way to read the files you open — those are held by the application in your browser and are never placed into the page.
More information about how Google uses data when you use its partners' sites is available at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
5. Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over personal data relating to you, including under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act.
Because we do not operate accounts, do not collect email addresses for the app, and never receive your files, the data we hold about you directly is essentially limited to the server logs described in section 3. If you believe we hold data relating to you and you would like it removed, write to us using the contact details below and we will act on it.
You can also, at any time and without contacting us:
- Clear site data for cropviewer.net to erase everything stored locally.
- Revoke the folder permission you granted, in your browser's site settings.
- Opt out of personalised advertising using the links in section 4.
- Block cookies for this site entirely — the application will still work, because it does not use cookies.
6. Children
This site is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date. Material changes to how data is handled will be described rather than quietly substituted.
8. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about privacy on this site, can go to admin@cropviewer.net.
