Keyboard shortcuts
CropViewer is built to be driven from the keyboard. This is the complete list.
Opening and saving
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+O | Open a folder |
| Enter | In the viewer: quick-save the crop beside the original. In the grid: open the selection (or rename it, on macOS) |
| Ctrl+S | Save, overwriting the original |
| Ctrl+Shift+S | Save As, with format options |
| Ctrl+P |
You can also drag a folder or an image onto the window — or onto the home page — and it opens straight away.
Viewing and navigating
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| ← → | Previous / next image |
| Space | Next image |
| Shift+Space | Previous image |
| F | Fit the image to the window |
| 1 | Actual size (100%) |
| F11 | Fullscreen |
| Esc | Leave fullscreen, then return to the grid |
The mouse wheel zooms around the pointer, and dragging with the left button pans. Double-clicking the image returns to the thumbnail grid.
Cropping
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| C | Toggle crop mode |
| ← ↑ → ↓ | Nudge the crop region one pixel — in crop mode only |
| Shift + drag a corner | Keep the current aspect ratio |
| Shift + drag the rotate handle | Snap rotation to 15° steps |
| Ctrl+K | Apply the crop to the image |
| Ctrl+Z | Undo |
The arrow keys do two different things depending on mode. Outside crop mode they step through the folder; inside it they move the crop region by a pixel. This is the one piece of modal behaviour in the app, and it is worth knowing about before it surprises you.
Ctrl+Z is layered. While you are adjusting a crop region it steps back through your edits to that region. Once you have applied a crop, it restores the previous image and brings back the region you used, so you can adjust and re-apply.
Transforming
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+[ | Rotate left 90° |
| Ctrl+] | Rotate right 90° |
Flip, scale and resize are on the toolbar and in the Image menu. All transforms are undoable, and the 90° rotations are lossless.
In the thumbnail grid
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | Move the selection |
| Double-click | Open the image |
| Click a selected item | Rename it in place |
| Right-click | Cut, copy, paste, delete, compress to ZIP, extract |
| Ctrl / Shift + click | Extend the selection |
File operations need a browser that supports the File System Access API — Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers on the desktop. In Safari and Firefox the folder opens read-only and saves arrive as downloads.
