macOS: first launch shows “cannot be verified”?

On first launch macOS may say “CropViewer can’t be opened because the developer cannot be verified.” To open it (one time only):

  1. Drag CropViewer into your Applications folder.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) the app → Open → Open.
  3. If still blocked, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
